In the UK "Leased lines" are typically referred to as E1 circuits. An E1 circuit is a 2.048Mbps circuit derived by combining 32 E0 64Kbps channels

les/ethernet circuits

BT’s Short Haul Data Services (Inland private circuits) are most commonly associated with LES circuits (LAN Extension Services) providing 10mbps – 1Gbps Ethernet extension up to a distance of around 25km. This product portfolio has been enhanced, extended, and renamed as EES (Ethernet Extension Services) increasing available speeds from 10mbps to 10Gbps, and improving reach (for some circuits) up to 35km.

BT isn’t the only player in the EES market however. Colt, NTL:Telewest (Virgin), NEOS, Intechnology etc, all have deployed significant national Ethernet networks, bringing circuit diversity, and cost alternatives to BT.
